If you’ve ever lingered on a photo of a McLaren P1, the Mini Cooper in its iconic redesign, or the bold lines of a Fiat 500—you’ve encountered the signature of Frank Stephenson. He isn’t just an automotive designer; he is a true visionary—someone who knows how to transform metal and plastic into emotion. His background includes work at BMW, MINI, Ferrari, Maserati, McLaren, and even Aston Martin. He is the designer who gave the Mini that playful yet audacious look that captivated millions, and who helped make the Fiat 500 a style icon. Simply put, if the word «charisma» exists in the automotive world, it belongs to his projects.

Frank recently gave an interview to RBC Radio—and there were so many insights that you want to dissect every word. For instance, have you ever wondered what kind of vehicle someone who designs hypercars actually drives? Stevenson surprised us here: he isn’t chasing pretension or keeping a garage full of supercars. His personal fleet is a mix of practicality and passion. Among his favorites is the 1968 Citroën DS21, where the main focus isn’t speed, but history and soul. According to him, this is precisely what modern electric cars are lacking.

In the interview, he also shared his thoughts on the future of automotive design: in his view, the designers' primary task right now is not to lose touch with emotion. Yes, electric cars are quieter and have a different architecture, but they are obligated to evoke the same shivers as good old V8s. And judging by his projects, Frank definitely knows how to achieve that.
