The Box of Memories
01 · Short film · stop-motion + 2D · 2:21 · solo about the things that keep our memories alive
TASK How do you show a memory? It has no shape, but we all keep little things that bring it back.IDEA A tin box full of small objects. Each one opens a different memory: funny, sad or just a moment with a special vibe.SOLUTION I shot the objects in stop-motion and drew the memories over live footage as white, ghost-like figures. Colour shows up only for a second, like a flash of the past.RESULT A two-minute film about nostalgia for very different times of life.
A New Year Miracle
02 · Brand content · Tsekh 85 bakery · 2 × 0:40 two winter stories that end at the bakery
TASK The bakery needed New Year videos for social media: something warm that makes people think of Tsekh 85 when they think of the holidays.IDEA Two short stories, one in Moscow and one in Saint Petersburg. Both end at Tsekh 85, where Ded Moroz is already waiting. The second one is a nod to «Home Alone».SOLUTION I painted both cities in warm gold against a deep blue night, so the bakery feels like the cosiest place in town.RESULT «Golden Moscow» and «Not Home Alone», two videos about a real New Year miracle.
Nespravedlivo
03 · Music video · Magrafenina · 3:10 · solo about loss, loneliness and moving on
TASK The song «Nespravedlivo» («Unfair») is about something that didn’t work out. It’s sad, but not hopeless, and the video had to carry both feelings.IDEA A girl alone by the sea in a black-and-white world. Small drawn things keep appearing around her: butterflies, flowers, a blue scarf, a lamp.SOLUTION I filmed live footage and animated over it by hand. Every colour detail is a sign that she’s already moving on.RESULT A music video that says: if it didn’t work out now, it will another time, at the right time and in the right place.
Where Does the Bear Live?
04 · Short film · co-directed with Masha Shatalova · 5:30 · duo about a boy who has to fight a dragon to be seen
TASK We wanted to show what a child feels when the adults at home are too busy with their own problems to see him.IDEA A boy is lonely in his own family. A huge blue bear takes him into an imaginary world, where he has to fight a dragon, a symbol of the trouble at home.SOLUTION We split the film into two worlds: a cold, dark blue home and a soft pink fantasy land. I directed the film together with Masha Shatalova.RESULT A five-minute film made at the HSE Art and Design School. When the boy comes back, his parents finally notice him.
