Rebirth by Water — Pedro Kawahata

«Rebirth by Water» is a short film recorded in the city of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. The objective of this video is to show the city after the flood that affected the state since April this year (2024). In may the «Guaíba» water levels started to go down and the people of the city made a great effort to repair and clean the city, but the effects of this tragedy are not just physical and material, but also psychological. This film shows the current state of Porto Alegre, while people start to rebuild their lives from the ground up. Inspired by the pioneering work of Dziga Vertov, this short adopts a documentary style to capture the raw and authentic experiences of the city’s inhabitants.
