VW MISSION EFFICIENCY:
While the global automotive industry went wild competing over screen size and backlight brightness, the «boring» Germans at Volkswagen dug out their old logarithmic scale ruler. They presented the Mission Efficiency concept—and it’s the boldest trolling of the industry in the last decade. While Tesla is cosplaying cyberpunk and Chinese companies are molding screens onto ceilings, VW simply focused on the multiplication table.

Externally, the vehicle looks like it was swallowed by gigantic pliers and stretched out along the road. Its drag coefficient is a meager 0.176. To put that in perspective: a standard car is around 0.3. This means this thing essentially pushes the air aside with a single finger. It doesn’t need a huge, heavy battery to travel far—it simply meets no resistance.

There isn’t a single glossy, touch-sensitive surface inside that is prone to fingerprints. The Germans brought back physical buttons where they are needed, and they made the cabin as strictly functional as possible. No starry sky projectors or massagers. Everything is subservient to one goal: to transport the body from point A to point B while expending the minimum amount of joules of energy. This is a slap in the face to all marketers who convince us that a car absolutely requires a champagne cooler.
Beneath the hood, there are no explosive starts accelerating to one hundred in two seconds. The motors are tuned for fuel-efficient driving, and the aerodynamics have been refined to the point of perfection. Volkswagen proves a simple truth: why complicate things with a 200 kilowatt-hour battery when you can make the car smarter? Why promise five-minute charging when you can simply drive to a station infrequently?
Mission Efficiency—it’s a return to the roots of German pragmatism. While other brands go bankrupt trying to force the unworkable, VW quietly develops the most efficient electric platform. And when in a couple of years the electricity bills make the owners of massive electric trucks weep over the outlet, the owners of these boring boxes will simply drive past them on their way.
