The Game Archive — a media project dedicated to video games from past years that faded into the shadow of popular titles or were simply forgotten over time. The project explores unusual gameplay mechanics, the history of games, and the reasons for their commercial failures.
Goal: To rediscover interesting games from the past and preserve knowledge about their design solutions.
DATA SOURCES
To restore the game history, information must be gathered from various source types.
Game Databases MobyGames, IGDB — titles, release dates, platforms, developers, and genres.Historical Archives Internet Archive, old gaming magazines, and interviews — contemporary reviews, production history, and release context.Video Materials YouTube, gameplay footage, and developer presentations — observations of interfaces, mechanics, and gameplay.Communities Reddit, forums, and discussions — player recollections, recommendations, and supplementary, unverified testimony.
For automation, MobyGames API and IGDB API are particularly useful. They provide structured data about games, but adherence to their access rules is required.
