AMG engineers stripped excess weight from the coupe, defied the laws of physics with rear-wheel drive, and unleashed primal atmospheric fury under the hood—but you’re unlikely to feel it because this beast now belongs to other collectors.

Munich can light a nervous cigarette on the sidelines because a response has come from Affalterbach. Mercedes-AMG rolled out the CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung—the second car in its exclusive Mythos retrospective line. And this isn’t just another fast barge for the autobahn; it’s a true piece of concentrated aggression.

The figures in the title are not marketing nonsense—they are pure physics: a modernized four-liter V8 with a flat crankshaft and twin snail-coil turbos produces exactly 646 horsepower and 850 Newton-meters of torque. All this raw power is routed exclusively to the rear wheels via the nine-speed AMG SpeedShift TCT 9G automatic transmission. No compromises with all-wheel drive for office drones.

To make this missile weigh as little as a feather, engineers completely gutted the standard chassis. Carbon fiber is used everywhere: the hood, roof, fender flares, sills, and the enormous adjustable rear wing devoured excess weight. The final result of this diet is a loss of 170 kilograms compared to the stock CLE. The equipped weight of this monster is only 1,895 kg. The track width was increased by 60 millimeters on each side for aggressive handling.

Acceleration to a hundred takes 3.9 seconds. To two hundred—11.4 seconds. Top speed is limited to 310 km/h. But the best feature is the special track mode, in which acceleration to three hundred takes 36.8 seconds.

The first car in this series—the Roadster PureSpeed without a roof or windshield (produced in a run of 250 units)—has already become a classic. The CLE 646 took it further: only thirty examples will be made. Thirty! And the icing on the cake—they have all already found their owners. The car hasn’t even cooled down after the renders, and the wealthy have already transferred the money. Ordinary folk are left only to drool over photos of the nastiest coupe based on the MMA platform that ever carried the three-pointed star.
