MEZEN is a river located in the Arkhangel region, along which the waters of the White Sea have been inhabited for centuries. This territory is rich in unique people ' s creativity. The concept was to make a book in the form of a family photo album on folk art in the region, to study the culture of pommers and to pass on something home to me, because all my relatives on my mother’s line are from there.

Structure

The book contains the main part about the applied art and the extra part with the song Folklore, which is included in the CBS photo album. The hardness in these two sections is different. The main part of the picture is based on the principle of the photo album: the images are sort of chaoticly stuck on the turn-up page, but in fact the way the images are presented changes depending on the section of the book. In an additional part of the photograph, the picture is left as a separate mini-book and is inserted in a twist with folk songs, the person opens the turn and first reads the beginning of the song, flashes the album and finishes the rest of the album. In mezeni, it’s just oral folk art, all of it is transmitted through songs, and I wanted to convey this air of humour through text and photos.
Grid variation
It was important for the project to maintain the idea of freedom of photo placement while respecting certain rules, so in each chapter the principle of photo placement changes relative to the grid.
Pictures
A large number of illustrations have been developed for the book. The graph uses only black and red, which refers to mezzen paintings.
