In the previous module, I studied the history of male swimwear and the life of Matthew Webb, who performed outrageous stunts for public recognition. Unfortunately, his latest frenzy ended with his death. Analyzing this history, I noticed a parallel with the modern world—people continue to commit various eccentricities to gain coveted likes and shares on social media. By studying various celebrity archetypes, I concluded that the primary methods of provocation are grotesque nudity or the exaggeration of an image. In my project, I am working through the lens of swimwear aesthetics, hyperbolizing swimming attire and retro bathing suits.
