ABOUT ME

post

I’m an environmental design student at HSE University in Moscow, interested in the relationship between space, culture and human experience. My approach to design begins with observation and research. I’m drawn to the stories behind places, the character of their surroundings and the ways architecture and design can express a sense of identity.Through my projects, I explore different scales of design — from architectural concepts to interiors and objects. I see each project as an opportunity to experiment, develop my ideas and move closer to my own design language.

WHAT I DO

My practice explores the connection between concept, form and context. I work across different scales of environmental design, from architectural spaces to interiors and objects.ARCHITECTURE & SPATIAL CONCEPTSExploring architectural form, cultural context and the relationship between buildings and their surroundings.INTERIOR & RESIDENTIAL DESIGN Developing spaces that respond to people’s needs, everyday experiences and ways of living.OBJECT & MATERIAL EXPLORATION Investigating form, texture and material through furniture, ceramics and object design.

The project is located near Lake Sukhum, in the western part of the city. I chose Sukhum as the setting because Abkhazia is a place I know personally, and its landscape and cultural identity have always been an important source of inspiration for my work. The lakeside site became the starting point for exploring a new architectural form in dialogue with its natural surroundings.

FROM THEATRE TO LITERATURE

A dramatic theatre is closely connected to literature — a medium through which stories, memories and ideas are passed from one generation to another. For a theatre in Abkhazia, I turned to Abkhaz literature and the themes that frequently emerge from it: love, pride, honour, courage, heroism, the pursuit of freedom and devotion to one’s homeland. These ideas became the conceptual starting point of the project.

THE MEMORY OF A HOMELAND

The novel 'The Last of the Departed' by Abkhaz writer Bagrat Shinkuba became the literary foundation of the project. The novel addresses the tragedy of the Mahajir migration — the forced displacement of the Abkhaz people and other peoples of the Caucasus.I wanted the theatre to emerge from this cultural and historical memory. I sought to translate its emotional depth into an architectural image.

FROM MEMORY TO FORM

How can cultural memory be expressed through architecture?

I began searching for a form that could convey the ideas behind the project without representing them literally. The landscape of Abkhazia offered two powerful images: mountains and the sea. Both are deeply connected to the region, yet within this concept they carry different meanings.

BETWEEN MOUNTAINS AND SEA

The mountains represent Abkhazia — its landscape, pride and the resilience of its people. They became a symbol of the homeland that remains deeply rooted in collective memory. The sea carries a more complex meaning. For the Mahajirs, the Black Sea was the route into exile. As they left their homeland by boat, the mountains of Abkhazia remained behind them — among the last images of the place they were forced to leave. These two images became the main references for the architectural form of the theatre.

ARCHITECTURAL DEVELOPMENT

The architectural form emerged from the contrast and connection between mountains and sea. I explored these natural references through fluid lines, changing silhouettes and sculptural volumes. The sketches document the search for an architectural expression that could bring the two images together in a single composition.

ARCHITECTURAL SOLUTION

The final form combines an elongated, flowing volume with a rising vertical silhouette. Its sculptural profile reflects the two main natural references behind the concept: the mountains and the sea.The architectural composition translates these references into a contemporary image for a dramatic theatre rooted in the cultural context of Abkhazia.
