The visual appearance of modern Russia is permeated with symbols of the Soviet past. ESCAPE ATTEMPT is a fashion collection inspired by the Soviet aesthetics and the author’s background. It is a project about the desire and the inability to move on, to escape from a restricted-access city.

The collection concept is based on the author’s background. The author was born and grew up in Siberia, in a Closed Administrative-Territorial Entity after the collapse of the USSR, in modern Russia. However, in closed cities, visual culture has not changed over the last 40-50 years. So, it is safe to say that the author grew up in the preserved Soviet aesthetics.
The visual appearance of modern Russia, in closed cities and everywhere else, is filled with symbols of the Soviet era. Prefabricated housing, ZHEK-art, PO-2 concrete fence, tarnished and often torn wallpaper and plaster of public spaces, all this generates heartfelt sadness and nostalgia, and ignites a desire to see and accept one’s own cultural heritage.
