
The project Untranslatable: Russia with Subtitles is an attempt to use the aesthetics of Russian everyday life as a source for creating a clothing line for young people and organizing a creative community. The project consists of several parts, each of them based on one of the areas of everyday life.

For the first part of the project, a visual study on the topic of CityTexts was carried out. A special kind of content was collected in the five largest cities of Russia — Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, and Ufa. The content was created from interesting inscriptions on the walls: «I fell in love with a girl with blue eyes», «I’ll start learning the hard art of being myself», «See the world in one», «God save the underground». The inscriptions served as the basis for prints, preserving the author’s features, punctuation, spelling and visuals. Prints are used for the original clothing collection, which includes T-shirts, sweatshirts, handkerchiefs, socks.


The second part offers the standard handkerchief designs used as prints for T-shirts and shorts.
The third part is an integral component of the daily life of modern society — logos printed on plastic bags. The 100% recognizable logo from the Rave Girl package looks great on women’s jackets.
The fourth part, being a kind of culmination of the project, represents clothing options for the original Russian character — the garden scarecrow. Previously used elements are combined here — inscriptions, plastic bags, fabrics with a variety of colours and prints, as well as rubber gloves and slippers.
The final part of the project — ads placed on the streets — closes the circle beginning with the graffiti on the walls. Advertisement prints, according to the author’s design, look great on raincoats and bags.
The final chord of the project is a video representing the creative community that will be interested in the proposed clothing line, understanding this special «untranslatable world» and being part of it.
